About teatron (English)

What is Teatron?
Teatron project intends to create a social Web for performing arts focused on artists and their creations.
Which are the goals?
The initial goals are:
- Creating an international community of artists, audience and professionals that will allow them to interact
- Spreading the artists’ creations, overcoming the obstacles present in the real world
- Recruiting new audiences, specially, digital natives
Teatron intends to strengthen an emerging sector of performing arts that does not feel comfortable with traditional labels (theater, dance, poetry, performance, videoart). For this reason, Teatron will try to abolish the barriers between these areas.
How will it work?
The main structure will be the same as for any social Web, but it will be tuned to the specific features of the subject. A registered user in Teatron will present her/himself to the community through a profile. Each user will be responsible for the content of her/his profile. After registration, the artist will be able to publish any document with video, text or image files: the recording of a live performance, an extract from a play, a site-specific piece for Teatron, a work in progress, an essay, an idea… The visitors will be able to comment and assess all the published posts. They will also be able to look up for the better rated posts, the latest posts, the most watched posts, etc. They will also be able to look up for posts according to labels that users themselves will create. The preferences of each user will also be portrayed.
Who will the users be?
Besides the artists, other types of users will improve the community dynamics: theaters, festivals or producers that want to show the work of artists that they present or represent. This will attract audiences to the real events where the plays are exhibited in the real world.
Where are we heading?
This is the starting point. Teatron is open to an evolution that will be determined by the future community needs. It will exploit the materials and relationships generated by Teatron and, thus, will be able to offer new services for artists, audiences and professionals (specially those involving Internet use for creating or spreading pieces: on-line TV, communal pieces following the Open Source model and many others that we are not able to imagine yet).
