The Swedish Dance History

The history of dance is initiated through dance, but it is writers that fasten it and its readers that secure it. The Swedish Dance History is dance’s claim on its own history, a history created and authorized by us who create dance and choreography. The Swedish Dance History is a collective effort to realize this history and ultimately to claim the right to our future.

The self-organized, user-directed network organization Inpex will together with choreographers and dancers all around the world create a new version of the publication The Swedish Dance History. A brand new editorial group will set up camp at ImPulsTanz in order to recruit a vibrant team of festival participants which on 24 July, together with doers and makers of the world, will fill page after page with texts, images and scores, interviews, drawings and reflections.

The assembly of the book will also be a social event where all kinds of perspectives and ideas can be given space. The Swedish Dance History does not represent an opinion but reflect a multitude of perspectives, styles and ideas.

The book release takes place on the 13 August in Vienna. Sign up to be one of the international distributors, fill your suitcase with silver books and set up your own release at your next destination.

Your contribution is important and the procedure is simple, everyone that considers him or herself a practitioner of dance and choreography is welcome to contribute anything from text to images, your own or others: write your manifesto, sit down with a friend and produce an interview or compose an essay together with your dancing colleagues. Share your favorite text with us or reedit something you find existing. Scores, drawings, reflections, poems, essays, definitions, complaints, celebrations, bashings and images are just the beginning of what this book can contain.

Participate in the editing process live in Vienna, or be with us over skype, facebook, twitter or just call us and soon the second silver bible will see the light of day. It is now or never and no time to waste.

Send your contribution to Inpex before 20 July.

Images are better in high resolution, texts are easier to read when corrected, credits efficient if you attach your name. Bold self-promotion and abstruse material is better kept to oneself. The Swedish Dance History is a collaboration made possible by: University of Dance and Circus Stockholm, The Swedish Arts Grants Committee, ImPulsTanz Vienna International Festival, PAF.
