The movement Katsunori talks about is the seventh, The devil’s dance (listen here), and the sixth, a tango which will be followed by a waltz and a ragtime (listen here).

During the world war and exiled, Stravisnky created the work in collaboration with the Swiss writer C.F.Ramuz, based on a folk russian tale and on the myth of Faust. A soldier, going back to his home, finds the devil,  who convinces him to change his magic fiddle (his soul) for  his desires to become truth. The soldier will try later to recover his fiddle and his lost happiness. Because of the difficulties of the moment, Stravisnky conceived a simple and economic piece, for tree actors, a dancer and just seven instruments.

Stravinsky’s expertise to create a masterpiece from a small number of elements allows Katsunori to offer a lesson in percussion.
