Out-of-Field

There are two ways to approach and define the concept of ?out of field?: there is a relative out-of-field and an absolute out-of-field, although the two are inevitably linked. If we think about a shot or a frame as a closed system, then the relative out-of-field must, at some point in time, refer to a space outside of the one being shown, which will itself be shown in turn, even though that will give rise to a further unshown space, and so on ad infinitum. The absolute out-of-field transcends the dimension of sounds and images, and alludes to the spiritual or Absolute. Gilles Deleuze.

In this playlist we?d like to push this idea. We want to take the traditional out-of-field and take it one step further. To go to videos that attempt to create an out-of-field within a field, videos in which something that was supposed to remain outside of the audio field is revealed, videos in which something is out-of-field to the people who are in the scene, but not to the viewers who are watching them, and so on.

Because in our new production, A House in Asia, the out-of-field plays a crucial role.
