Audioturgy

Dear Teatron listeners:

For this playlist I?ve picked six excerpts from different films and a video made by a visual artist. I?ve basically focused on the sound construction used in each case as a web of details in relation to the action. The way the audio is organised in these excerpts ?some more than others? demands an active but also ambiguous participation from viewers. Certain details interrupt, manipulate or appropriate the time within the sequences, drawing attention to elements that combine with the image and disorient the observer?s gaze within it.

The sound in these isolated cases is what allows doubt and a reconsideration of the images, thus intermittently neutralising the enormous power that images can have in film language. This compilation is not about looking, but about constantly deciphering the meaning of the material before us, in juxtaposition with the audio.

Viewing with headphones is recommended for all but the final video in this playlist.
